Etymology

Today associated with the sports of hockey and soccer, the "hat trick" is a term originally from cricket. It denotes when a bowler retires three consecutive batters with three consecutive balls. It's incredibly difficult to do. How difficult? In the One Day International, it has only happened 33 times since 1982 -- most recently by Clint McKay of the Victorian Bushrangers this past Saturday vs. England.

Cheers, Clint!
