Etymology

Knights are often portrayed as being noble warriors, but 90% of the knight's job was to discipline the surfs that lived on the land of the noble they served. They also trained cops and did other security-type services.

The "chivalry" that knights practiced governed their treatment of other captured knights; those laws did not apply to peace time and most knights were actually total jerks.
